Conifer Bark Beetles
Introduction:
Borids have a parallel sided body with the elytra covering the abdomen. They resemble some tenebrionids, with which they share a 5-5-4 tarsal formula. The externally open prothoracic coxal will separate them form tebebrionids (cavities closed). Members of the genus, Boros are somewhat dorsoventrally flattened.
Adult Diagnosis:
elongate, moderately convex, dark brown or black, sub‑glabrous or shiny head gradually constricted behind eyes antennae 11-segmented, antennomeres 2-8 moniliform, 9-11 weakly clubbed; antennomeres 9-10 with reniform sensory patches
Ecology:
Habits of adults are not widely known; larvae are saproxylic and have been found in conifers.
